THE OLD CRAFT OF A CHEMISTKr. 550,00
Until recently in Scandinavia local pharmacies were not only distributors, but also small-scale producers of medicine. For the benifit of the future generations The Danish Foundation for the Persevation of Old Pharmacy Equipment & Furniture has wished to establish a video-documentation of the traditional craft of the chemist - formerly often referred to by their nickname, "pill-rollers".
In sections 1-6, pharmacist S. A. Simonsen demonstrates the old working methods in authentic settings. The locations being the old provincial pharmacy of Rudkøbing and the Danish Museum of Medical History in Copenhagen. In section 7, pharmacy assistant Ulla Madsen demonstrates a more modern but still pre-indusrial production of sterile medicine, filmed at Sct. Nicolai Pharmacy in Svendborg.
1. Crude drugs & drug extraction
2. Pills, powders & dispensing powders
5. Medicinal plasters
7. Sterile medicine
Each section ends with a contrast: The hi-tech industrial production of similar medical products filmed at modern factories.
This video was made under professional supervision of Poul R. Kruse, associate professor, D.Sc. Ph.D.; S. A. Simonsen, pharmacist; and Inge Moustgaard, chemist and chairman of the foundation.
